Quantum Chapter, the first science-fiction-themed interactive bookstore in China, opened at Harmony Times Square, SIP recently. Unlike traditional bookstores, it offers a futuristic cultural experience.

Founded under the support from the Beijing Yuanyu Science Fiction and Future Technology Research Institute led by Liu Cixin, author of the Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy, the bookstore brings together top domestic sci-fi IP resources. It features reading areas, sci-fi exhibitions, interactive science activities, and cultural exchange spaces.

Designed like a space capsule, the store boasts striking orange installations and mirror reflections. Shelves are numbered like interstellar landing modules. In addition to the reading areas, there is a café, work spaces, and music listening spots.

An exhibition kicked off at the bookstore on the same day, showcasing props from The Wandering Earth (a Chinese movie), original Chinese mecha designs, a light show, paintings by Chinese artist Qi Xinghua, and works by winners of a youths’ sci-fi creation competition.

The bookstore also has a cinema offering an immersive interactive experience themed “Escape from the Solar System”, and plans to host author meetings, lectures, and fan gatherings in the future.
