Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR), Oxford’s first overseas physical science and engineering research arm, celebrated the 7th anniversary of its establishment on Nov 26.

Located in SIP, OSCAR focuses on scientific research in areas such as biomedical engineering and healthcare, environmental and biological technology, nanotechnology and functional materials, as well as mathematical modeling and data analysis. It aims to promote the transformation of basic research into industrial applications.

With 15 lead scientists from Oxford and 52 full-time researchers, OSCAR has built a robust interdisciplinary academic collaboration network, securing 44 government-funded tech projects.

Achievements in research are remarkable: 58 patent applications and 199 papers published in international journals by 11 research groups.

Meanwhile, OSCAR has incubated six companies, attracted over 20 tech startup, and implemented more than 100 initiatives aimed at bridging industry-academia-research collaboration.

In his address, Prof. Cui Zhanfeng, OSCAR’s founding director, thanked SIP and Oxford University for their sustained support. He emphasized OSCAR’s role in linking Chinese and British innovation resources and transforming lab discoveries into market solutions.

During the celebration, three new companies incubated by OSCAR, respectively engaged in AI, green energy and bio-manufacturing, were inaugurated.

Seven industry-academia-research collaboration projects were signed on site, and several guests shared their experience in research and entrepreneurship in the roundtable discussion.

Ten projects from OSCAR, featuring advanced technology in life science, new energy and materials, AI and other cutting-edge fields, participated in the roadshow held in the afternoon.
